INTENSIVE THERAPY CENTER "OLINEK" IN POLAND, WARSAW

The Intensive Therapy Center "Olinek" offers a large range of different therapies:

Intensive Therapy Program - TheraSuit Method

How does the TheraSuit works?

TheraSuit, thanks to its construction and improvements creates a breathable soft dynamic orthotic. Its major goal is to improve and change proprioception (pressure from the joints, ligaments, muscles), reduce patient's pathological reflexes, restore physiological muscle synergies (proper patterns of movement) and load the entire body with weight (process similar to a reaction of our muscles to the gravitational forces acting up us for 24 hours). All of the above normalizes afferent vestibulo-proprioceptive input (information arriving to the vestibular system). The vestibular system is a very important center. It processes, integrates and sends back all the information that arrives from muscles, joints, tendons etc. It influences muscle tone, balance and the position of the body in space.

- Spinal Cord Injuries from C7 and below which present with the following symptoms:
- Paralysis and weakness of the upper and lower extremities
- Paralysis and weakness of the lower extremities, upper extremities are not affected
- Paralysis and weakness of the trunk causing difficulties to maintain correct posture and position
- Spasticity of the muscles (flexors or extensors)
- Contractures of upper and lower extremities
- Decreased endurance and general fitness level
- Limited self care, transfers and independent movement

- Compensation / Re-trains central nervous system
(restores lost functions through use of non-affected muscles)
- Improves strength and endurance of the affected muscles
- Improves active and passive range of motion
- Helps to decrease contractures
- Normalizes muscle tone
- Provides external stabilization
- Improves body alignment
- Provides dynamic correction
- Improves balance and coordination
- Improves body and spatial awareness
- Promotes development of both fine (hand) and gross motor skills
- Helps to prevent osteoporosis
- Improves control of the movement
- Improves the function of many systems (circulatory, respiratory, metabolism)
- Improves self care and independent mobility

Tomatis Therapy

The Tomatis Therapy training consists in listening to a properly selected and filtered music, which is emitted by a machine called "electronic ear", a perfect human ear's model. The stimulation is being effected by filtered, alternated high and low frequency sounds. During the Tomatis training a special and individually prepared music program is being perceived not only by hearing it but also by the patient's bones. While listening to the program the patient can talk, play or simply sleep. The prof. Tomatis therapy combines different phases: ones stimulate strongly the brain, others demand active participation of the patient.

- Patients suffering from neurological diseases
- Autistic children
- Children and teenagers with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia
- Everyone who would like to stimulate and improve brain's functioning

Benefits/Effects of the Tomatis Therapy:
- Improves balance and coordination what provides a perfect support for the Intensive Therapy with TheraSuit Method
- Reduces hypersensitivity to sounds of autistic children
- Stimulates and improves brain's functioning by high frequency sounds
- Promotes concentration and attention by intensifying listening skills
- Enhances learning and foreign languages acquisition
- Reduces the frequency of spelling and grammar mistakes

- Calms and relaxes

Sensory Integration
What is the Sensory Integration?
The Sensory Integration is a process, a natural reaction of our organism, precisely of the neurological system, to all of the stimulations that we are given simultaneously (sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch). We use our multiple senses to take in this varied information, and combine them to give us a clear understanding of the world around us and to react to the stimulation in a proper way. In other words the Sensory Integration is an adaptational reaction to the world that gives us possibility to make a movement, take a position, etc.
In case there are Sensory Integration Dysfunctions the Sensory Integration Therapy aims to improve the ability of the brain to process sensory information so that the child will function better in his daily activities. The Sensory Integration Therapy is an occupational therapy focus on stimulation of the senses. It has a pleasant form of play, adjusted to the age and to the present progress of the child.

Indications:
- Children with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dysorthography, leak of concentration
- Children with ADHD, ADD
- Children with Cerebral Palsy
- Autistic children
- Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders
- Children with Mental Retardation and Stereotyped Movements
- Children with genetic syndromes: Down, Asperger, Rett, Wiliams, Turner, Kineferter

Benefits/Effects of the Sensory Integration Therapy:
- Helps to manage body movements through space
- Development of body scheme
- Improves body balance and coordination
- Enables stable visual field, improves listening skills
- Postural development - enabling children to master gravity
- Better self conscious and selfesteem
- Better emotional functioning
